A small but unique cliffband about 10 miles up the Highway, The Jungle is a nice addition to the bouldering possibilities on Mt. Lemmon. Discovered in 2008 by Matt Fowls and Ian Evans (Or maybe re-discovered? Although it doesn't quite fit the description of the Weeping Wall in the old Tucson Bouldering Guide, it may be near this or have been climbed before), the Jungle is composed of two cliffbands - one short and gently overhanging, and a tall, highball wall of easier problems. Hosting a number of great problems, the Joe’s Valley-esque black and tan rock looks very out of place on the mountain. The bands have a wide variety of features, including crimps, slopes, and jugs, to compose some very powerful and technical climbs. The bands have an unusual feeling of seclusion to them, although they are only 100 yards away from the road.

Problems are between the V0 – V8 range, although there is one powerful testpiece—the Elephant—that will be hard when it goes.

DRIVING DIRECTIONS: Drive up Catalina Hwy to the Green Slabs parking area, a large pullout on the right side of the road just before MP 10.

APPROACH DIRECTIONS: Hike back down highway to a smaller pullout with a yellow 20 mph sign. Hike the obvious wash about 100 yards steeply uphill. The Jungle cliff bands are past two other similar looking walls, although these other walls don;t look as climbable.

SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS: A spotter is a good idea for this area. The landing consists of a nice flat ledge, but the ledge isn't too deep. You have about five good feet, then a drop off of about 15 feet.
